It was on Monday 18th the day I
taught my last class in the basic level. I felt I was prepared, and, this time,
I felt I was comfortable. I had to develop two activities. One was a
fill-in-the-blank activity, and the other one was a free practice in which they
had to write a paragraph about themselves. The topic was Daily Routine activities.
As a warm up, I put some pieces of paper in a
plastic bag which contained some daily routine activities. Voluntarily, every
student was going to pass and performed what the piece of paper said. The warm
up was successfully done since they were practicing the simple present, and at
the same time we all were having fun with the mimics the students made. I
spent 10 minutes in the warm up.
Once that they were familiarized with the
topic, I put them to work in pairs. They were to complete a fill in the blank
activity. I gave a reasonable amount of time for them to complete the exercise.
Then, I checked along with the class. I did the first exercise, and they kept
solving the rest. I asked individual questions. In this exercise I took around
15 minutes. I still had approximately 20 or 25 minutes to develop the second
activity, which was about daily routine activities; however, (again) my tutor
did not allow me to finish my class, so basically that was all I did in my
third class. I think I did a good job. Nevertheless, I got like a disgusting
feeling because I was not given the right time to develop the class. I think
that that also affected my grade. Anyways, I tried to give my best when teaching
and I know grades are just a parameter of what we do. Hope you all guys had
better experiences.
Nice to hear that you felt comfortable in your class. Unfortunately you couldn´t reach the same perspective in the previous ones...but you are done and maybe in the second round you will have the time required to develop every single activity you want!!!! It doesn´t matter the difficulties we find in our way, you know what you know and that´s it George, go ahead my friend!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Zarceño!!
ReplyDeleteFirst, let me tell you that I really like the template you chose for your blog as well as the music.
About your class:
It is a shame that your tutor didn't allow you to finish your lesson; nevertheless, it seems that it was a very nice class because of the activities you developed. I especially liked the mimic game for the warm-up because as you said "students were having fun at the same time that they were practicing the target grammatical structure". Hopefully, next time you'll have the allotted time.
Hello George
ReplyDeleteI guess the problem you had with the teacher's miscommunication, took all the good sense of your teaching experience. But above all you have to be proud of yourself because you could handle those unexpected situations you faced; indeed, if I would have been on your possition I would probably freak out.
No matter how difficult your experience was, I am pretty sure you learned a lot. Nice job George!!!.
Hi George!! I really liked the warm up activity, so I will take it :) I realized that you had a good management of your class, though you did not have the time to finish your lesson plan. It is nice that you know that you did a good job my friend! I agree with you when you say that grades are just a parameters. Congrats George!
ReplyDeleteHi George! I really understand how you feel because you could not develop all the activities that you prepared for your class, but at least you know that it was not because of you. You managed well the time. The problem was that your tutor did not allow you continue even though you had enough time. My case was different, I had problems to finish some of my activities because I did not manage well the time.
