In my 2nd teaching practice, I was not confortamble with the first activity since ,under my view point, it was sort of complicated; furthermore, I knew it was going to take lots of time to be developed, and I did not understand it at all. I started the class with a general greeting asking about the things my students had done on the weekend. Then, I kept on developing the activity which was about family members. I told my students to work in pairs but then, because of the time I did not complete the activity. For sure that I knew that the teacher was going to notice that the activity was not achieved as it should have been. I spent about 15 minutes on it. The next 15 minutes were spent in the presentation part. Here, the students had to used the book. There was a reading about the description of some people which matched with a picture of them, and the class had to inferred to which member of the family in the picture was the descritption they were reading. As I said, I was not comfortable since the beginning. I must say that my second experience on teaching was one of those that are good because of the mistakes that you obtained from it, so that next time you take them into account for you to improve, modify or totally change everything. Even bad things have positive points.
I will not give more minutiae of the lesson. What I can say is that there was not coordination of some points in regards with what I was supposed to teach due to the miscommunication that I had with the teacher. I also want to say that I did not have the time I was supposed to have to teach my lesson. I was given only 30 minutes. Sincerely, this was not a good experience at all since there was no flexibility or freedom to teach the lesson. I could not change anything in the lesson plan (this does not mean the lesson plan was wrong) and since that moment I had bad sensations about it. Anyways, it is done. I want to believe that next time will be totally different.
Hello! George
ReplyDeleteSomething similar happened to me, I had problems with one activity because it was kind of complicated, and it took me more time than I imagined. I consider that it is not easy to set the time because we can have unexpected problems during the lesson, but as teachers we need to be ready to deal with that. I agree with you when you say that with bad experiences, we can learn a lot from them because we can improve and try to do the best next time.
I wish you the best for the next class!
Blessings..
Hey my dear George, really sad to hear that...well George, my advice for you is that you MUST talk with the teacher and let him know that you will cover the same topic asigned, but that you will give your personal touch...remember that at the end it is the purpose of this practice isn´t it???? I really understand you, because when I read the lesson plan I felt really bored and worried because of the activities to be developed...but, you know me baby and for sure I changed everything and did it in my way...I hope you can change things for you to feel comfortable!!!!
ReplyDeleteHello george!!!..
ReplyDeleteI agree on what sara is saying. The key for you to learn is to give the class that personal touch that defines you, so you can start trying new things and methods without been stuck on something you don't like. This are not bad experiences at all. I know you will learn something from them.
Try to keep as much communication with your teacher as possible because if he doesn't allow you to develop your class the way you planned not only affects your grade but also bitters your teaching time.
Hey George!
ReplyDeleteI think this knid of things have to do with a simple matter of probability; in other words, it is normal that we face these situations since we are new on the field, but I'm glad you have the willing to improve. My suggestion is to go and observe the class before the class you are supposed to teach and stay there at least the last hour, that way you can know the students' reaction towards the topic (to plan your lesson taking it into consideration), and you can have an extra chance to talk to the teacher as my other classmates suggested. You will have to ask for permission and spend more of your time, but it will be very useful. I'm telling you because I have done it two times.
Hi George!
ReplyDeleteAs my classmates say, you learn a lot from this kind of situations and I know sometimes we get angry when things do not work as we expected, but I encourage you to keep working my friend! It is important for us to have a good communication with our tutors not only to avoid misunderstandings and other things that may affect our grade, but also to learn more from them.
I see your point George sometimes we are given the topics we will develop just one day before teaching our classes, and it is not enough time to come up with great ideas. On the other hand, I believe having not the chance to change anything in the lesson makes you feel frustrated because you can for sure come up with pretty cool and meaningful activities, but as you go; we learn from any thing we experience!!! go on Georgii!!
